A Pair of White Painted Bergeres

A PAIR OF WHITE-PAINTED BERGERES (American, late 19th century) by Ogden Codman Jr. (American, 1863-1951), part of a fourteen piece suite of bedroom furniture. Done in Louis XVI style, the bergeres have arched backs, carved rosettes on the ends of the crest rail, carved acanthus leaves on the frame, padded armrests with scrolled supports, and stand on four fluted, round, tapered legs with arrow feet. The back, armrests, and loose cushion seat are upholstered in a chintz fabric patterned with flowers and musical instruments on a white ground.
