Newport Casino programme
The Newport Casino was a lively social club where Newporters gathered to enjoy all manner of cultural and recreational activities, from lawn tennis and billiards to concerts and theatricals. This Casino programme, printed September 10, 1886, features local advertisements, schedules, and news items.

Coaching Club Picnic
In the late 19th century, a number of millionaires practiced the old English coaching techniques of the early 19th century. Meeting in London, England, New York, N.Y. or Newport, R.I. coaching groups would take their vehicle for a one-day, two-day, or longer trip along chosen routes through several counties, going to prearranged inns and hotels along the routes. This is a photographic print of 13 individuals from the Coaching Club having a picnic at Bateman's, Newport, R.I.

Newport Young Ladies Archery Society
By the end of the 19th century were a fairly common feature of urban American middle-class life, but most of them closed their doors to girls and women. Some women responded to these closed doors by forming their own clubs. This photograph was taken c. 1870 at Beaulieu, Newport (the estate of Frederick de Barreda) depicting the Newport Young Ladies Archery Society. For the posing of this photo it is believed the women were permitted to assume the poses which they believed would show them to the best advantage.

This photograph, depicts sixteen people eating at a picnic table outdoors. A handwritten note on the back indicates the photograph was taken in Newport in September of 1873.

Louis Armstrong, photo from Newport Jazz Festival
Carmel Vitullo attended the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival where she photographed jazz greats—including Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong—for posterity.

New York Yacht Club Commendation
Given to Harold S. Vanderbilt in 1930 by the New York Yacht Club, this commendation applauded the Commodore's defense of the America's Cup title from his opponent Shamrock V.

Fork
This fork is from the original Ocean House, owned by John G. Weaver, which burned down twice; once in 1845, and again in 1898. This fork was most likely lifted from the rubble - notice the charred tines - and was given to the Redwood by a descendent of the original proprietor, Clement Weaver Brown.

Paloma Kissing Andy
Andy Warhol atttended Newport Art Museum’s Gala in 1985 for "Andy Warhol's Children's Show".

Candace Alig Van Alen
Mrs. Van Alen was a public relations executive, columnist for Newport Daily News, contributing editor of Vogue magazine, and dedicated philanthropist. This portrait was painted in 1960 by Augustin Segura, and was received by the Redwood in 2001 as a part of Ms. Van Alen’s estate. In addition, Mr. and Mrs. Van Alen paid for the renovation of a former office space in the library so that we might have a proper gallery for our exhibitions.

Tankard
This silver tankard, created by Samuel Vernon circa 1700-1720 was allegedly made for John Townsend. There are a number of initials carved into the handle, as well as the year 1685 which we believe was added sometime in the nineteenth century. It was given to the Redwood by Ms. Ellen Townsend.
