Patinated Bronze Model of the Borghese Gladiator
A PATINATED BRONZE MODEL OF THE BORGHESE GLADIATOR (Italian, 19th century) after Agasias of Ephesos. Currently in the collection of the Louvre, the "Borghese Gladiator" or "Fighting Warrior" is widely considered the aesthetic model of the male nude in motion. This 19th century bronze model mimics the ancient Greek original, a muscular male nude steps forward on his right leg with his left extended back, his left arm punches forward and his right is behind his back.
